Met Éireann has issued Status Yellow weather alerts for Monday ahead of Storm Floris’s arrival, reports RTE.

A weather warning has been put in place for counties Clare, Galway, Mayo, and Sligo, effective from 2am on Monday until 1pm the same day.

Another warning covers counties Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, and Leitrim, running from 4am Monday until 4pm, reports RTE.

A Status Yellow rain alert is also active for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo, valid from 2am until 10am Monday.

Met Éireann cautioned that Storm Floris will bring “very strong and blustery southwest winds veering westerly, with some damaging gusts” along with “spells of heavy rain, with a chance of thunder”, reports RTE.

They warned the storm’s effects could disrupt outdoor events and create hazardous travel conditions, structural damage, fallen trees, and debris.

Additionally, there is a risk of power outages, wave overtopping, lightning damage, and localized flooding, reports RTE.

The forecaster previously described the storm as bringing “unseasonably impactful weather” on Sunday night and Monday, highlighting that people are “at a greater risk of exposure” due to numerous outdoor events scheduled.

Forecaster Andrew Doran-Sherlock noted that, as it is a Bank Holiday weekend with many outdoor activities including camping, “more people will be at a greater risk of exposure than would normally be the case”, reports RTE.

“Our advice would be to pay attention to the weather forecasts and warnings issued over the weekend and take them into consideration with any plans you have,” he added, reports RTE.

His comments follow the UK Met Office naming Storm Floris as the sixth named storm of the 2024/2025 season.

The UK forecaster issued a yellow wind warning for northern UK areas from 6am Monday to 6am Tuesday.

This warning covers Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland, north Wales, and northern England, reports RTE.
