Italy has closed all non-essential factories on Saturday evening after registering another record number of coronaviruses deaths, standing now at 4,825, more than a third of the world’s total of covid-19 deaths, and is a grim reminder that the pandemic is out of control.
“The decision taken by the government is to close down all productive activity throughout the territory that is not strictly necessary, crucial, indispensable, to guarantee us essential goods and services,” Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said in a TV broadcast before midnight on Saturday night.
The 55-yr-old Prime Minister said that supermarkets and pharmacies will remain open but no one can go out unless they need to go to either of them.
