Health service unions and the HSE have confirmed that discussions at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) in an effort to prevent industrial action over staffing levels in the health sector have been successful and that the planned industrial action is now suspended.
The plan was for it to start Monday where 80,000 healthcare workers would begin a work-to-rule in hospitals nationwide.
Next Thursday, members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) and the Fórsa trade union would have staged a one-day strike at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, reports RTE.
It is understood demands included increasing consultation with unions on future staffing decisions, converting more agency positions into permanent HSE roles, and introducing new training initiatives, reports RTE.
