BREAKING: Man thrown in prison for 16 months for threatening life of Cllr Malachy Steenson

A Dublin man has been jailed for threatening the life of Dublin City Council Councillor, Malachy Steenson.

31-yr-old Jamie Moonen was in court today, along with Cllr Steenson, to hear the Judge’s verdict.

During the General Election last year, Moonen attempted to make his way to Cllr Steenson’s office in the north inner city during Cllr Steenson’s campaign.

The court hear how Noonen told gardai he was threatening Mr Steenson’s life.

In a victim impact statement read out in court, Cllr Steenson said that he was involved in politics all his life and that he would debate with this man publicly or privately, but that he could not have life endangered.

It’s also noted that Cllr Steenson called for there not to be a custodial sentence, however, the Judge enforced a 16 month jail sentence on the accused.
