BREAKING: Motorists advised to completely avoid the M50 as it remains at a standstill over the fuel protest

Motorists Advised to Avoid the M50 Amid Fuel ProtestsDublin motorists have been urged to steer clear of the M50 as fuel price protests cause severe disruption on Ireland’s busiest motorway. On Thursday, slow-moving convoys and blockades brought northbound traffic to a near standstill, particularly around Junction 5 at Finglas, with reports of protesters leaving vehicles and walking along the road.

M50 operators and Gardaí advised drivers to use alternative routes where possible, exercise extreme caution, avoid rubber-necking, and keep hard shoulders clear for emergency services. Tailbacks stretched from Junction 9 back to earlier exits, causing lengthy delays for commuters heading into and around Dublin.

The protests, involving hauliers, farmers, and contractors, target soaring fuel costs linked to international tensions. While authorities condemned the disruption to daily life and critical infrastructure, organisers have vowed to continue action until the government engages on the issue. Commuters are being told to plan journeys well in advance or work from home if feasible.
