Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange wind warning for County Wexford as several flights have been cancelled at Dublin Airport due to high winds from Storm Dave.

A Status Yellow wind warning is currently in effect across the country.

The Orange warning for Wexford will take effect at 6pm and last until 9pm.

The rest of the country remains under the Yellow warning until 2am tomorrow.

Met Éireann has warned of possible fallen trees and branches, wave overtopping along coasts, and very difficult travelling conditions.

Dublin Airport has reported 15 flight cancellations, 16 go-arounds, and one diversion as a result of Storm Dave.

The cancellations included seven departures and eight arrivals.

The airport has warned that further disruption is possible this evening as winds are expected to strengthen.

Passengers due to travel later are advised to contact their airline directly for the latest updates on their flight status.

Met Éireann has said the storm will bring very strong southerly winds, veering westerly by the evening, with severe gusts and coastal gales.

A Status Yellow rain warning is also in place for counties Mayo and Donegal due to heavy rain at times.

That warning came into effect at 8am and will remain until 4pm.

Possible impacts include localised flooding, poor visibility, and difficult travel conditions.

The UK Met Office has issued a Status Yellow wind warning for counties Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, and Derry.

The alert took effect at 2pm and will last until 3am tomorrow.

It warned that the storm will bring a spell of very strong winds through tomorrow morning, which may cause some damage and travel disruption.

The Road Safety Authority has advised that strong cross winds may affect vehicle control, with high-sided vehicles and motorcyclists being particularly vulnerable.

Drivers are urged to allow extra space between themselves and vulnerable road users such as cyclists and motorcyclists, who may be blown off course by the strong winds.

The authority has encouraged people to expect the unexpected.

Storm Dave is the fourth named storm of the season, taken from a list of 21 names selected by the Irish, UK, and Dutch national weather services.
