RTÉ News has confirmed that six people were arrested by Gardaí in Citywest tonight following a tense hours-long standoff that gripped the suburban business district and alarmed residents.
The incident erupted around 7:30pm at a commercial unit on the N7 Business Park, adjacent to the Citywest Hotel.
Initial calls reported a public disturbance involving shouting and barricades, escalating when the group – four men and two women aged 22 to 45 – refused to disperse.
Social media footage showed over 25 gardaí, equipped with shields and batons, storming the site at 9:15pm, supported by a Garda helicopter circling overhead. The operation concluded swiftly by 10pm, with no injuries reported. Arrests were made under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act for public order offences, affray, and possession of offensive weapons including sticks and bottles. Detainees are held at Tallaght, Crumlin, and Ronanstown stations.
Eyewitness told The Liberal: “Sirens everywhere – it felt like a war zone. Locals are terrified of migrants.” Road closures on the N7 caused significant tailbacks to the M50.
