
GardaĆ arrested six individuals in Citywest tonight following a dramatic hours-long standoff at a commercial unit on the N7 Business Park, near the Citywest Hotel. The incident, which began around 7:30pm, disrupted the suburban area and highlighted ongoing public order challenges in south Dublin.
A large protest got underway around 7pm, following an African migrant being charged with raping a 10-yr-old Irish girl on Monday.
Initial reports indicated a disturbance involving shouting and barricades erected by the group ā four men and two women aged 22 to 45. Despite repeated dispersal orders, the situation escalated, prompting a major Garda response. Over 25 officers, equipped with shields and batons, moved in at 9:15pm, supported by a helicopter overhead. The operation concluded by 10pm with all six in custody.

Arrests were made under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act for public order offences, affray, and possession of offensive weapons, including sticks and bottles. No injuries were reported among officers or bystanders. Detainees are being held at Tallaght, Crumlin, and Ronanstown stations for up to 48 hours of questioning.
Road closures on the N7 caused significant tailbacks extending to the M50 interchange, with traffic normalizing by 11pm. Forensic teams examined the site into the early hours.
The event follows a 15% rise in public order incidents across south Dublin this year, amid housing shortages and youth disaffection. A similar brawl in Tallaght last week left three injured.
Citywest, home to tech firms, luxury hotels, and residential estates, has seen multiple disturbances in recent months. Business owners reported concerns over impacts on tourism and operations, while residents noted the suburb’s shift from quiet haven to flashpoint.
Investigations continue, with charges expected tomorrow. GardaĆ emphasised a zero-tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour in the region.
