BREAKING: Status Yellow snow, ice, rain and wind warnings issued from Met Eireann as almost 500,000 customers are still without power after Storm Éowyn

As power restoration and cleanup efforts continue following Storm Éowyn, Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow snow and ice warning for 18 counties, reports Independent.

With some families anticipating a week without electricity, Storm Éowyn will rank as Ireland’s most expensive weather disaster in terms of cleanup and insurance costs.

Power has been restored to 308,000 affected homes, farms, and businesses by ESB Networks, reports Independent.

The number of customers without electricity has decreased from 768,000 yesterday to about 460,000 nationwide.

“The impact on customers and damage to the electricity network nationwide is unprecedented,” according to ESB Networks, reports Independent.

According to Irish Water, over 120,000 customers are still without water at noon.

Head of water operations at Irish Water, Margaret Attridge, told RTÉ’s One O’Clock News: “Over the course of today, we will be continuing to get generators out to site, to get treatment plants back into production. Where we cannot connect up a generator now, we have alternative water supplies in the form of tankers going out, situated in locations in communities like church, car parks, GAA pitch grounds. Information of where those locations are can be found on our website,” reports Independent.

The cleanup efforts may be further hampered by the possibility of further inclement weather at the start of next week.

From 8 p.m. tonight until 9 a.m. on Sunday, counties Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo are under a Status Yellow snow and ice warning, reports Independent.

Dispersed snow showers might become isolated tonight with ice patches in several locations, the national forecaster has said.

Carlow, Kilkenny, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary, and Waterford are all under a separate Status Yellow rain warning that will last from 5 a.m. today until 5 p.m. on Sunday, reports Independent.

In these places, spot flooding might result during heavy rainstorms.

Carlow, Dublin Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Munster, Galway, Mayo, and Sligo are all under a Status Yellow wind warning, which is in effect from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, reports Independent.
