BREAKING: “They wouldn’t bother if it was regular civilians” – Man arrested as two off-duty gardaĆ injured, one critically, in Dublin assault

Many people on social media are claiming that gardai are working around the clock to find out what happened two off-duty officers in Dublin last night, and that they wouldn’t be putting the same efforts in had it been regular civilians.

Tonight, a man has been arrested in connection with the assault.

Early this morning, an assault in Dublin city centre injured two off-duty gardaĆ, one of whom is reportedly in severe condition, reports RTE.

After the incident, which happened at the intersection of Dame Street and Eustace Street at about 1.30am, the man, who is in his 40s, was transported to Beaumont Hospital.

After being brought to St. James’s Hospital, the second man was released, reports RTE.

An incident room has been established at the Pearse Street Garda Station, and no one has been taken into custody.

It was “an unprovoked attack” on the two men who were returning home from a night out, according to Garda officials.

In addition to reviewing CCTV material, the GardaĆ have conducted a forensic investigation of the area, reports RTE.

Taoiseach Simon Harris expressed his sympathy for the two gardaĆ who were not on duty, stating that they were the “victims of an alarming” attack and that the “perpetrators of this attack will face the full rigours of the law” in a post on X.

Those “responsible must face justice” after the occurrence, according to Justice Minister Helen McEntee, was horrible.

The minister expressed her sympathy for the garda in the hospital in a post on X, and she encouraged anyone with information to get in touch with the gardaĆ, reports RTE.

The GardaĆ have asked anyone who may have dashcam or cell phone footage who was in the Dame Street/Temple Bar neighbourhood of Dublin between 1 and 1.45 in the morning to get in touch with them.

Additionally, if any cab drivers were in the vicinity at the time and could have video, they are being asked to get in touch with Pearse Street Garda Station at 01 66-690-00, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 66-61-11 or any other garda station, reports RTE.
