In what can only be described as utterly tragic, gardai have confirmed this morning that three people in two different cars have lost their lives in a road traffic accident in County Louth.
The collision happened at Carrickarnan on the N1 near the Carrickdale Hotel shortly after 2am Saturday morning.
The road remains closed this morning with diversions in place and a forensic examination to be carried out today.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Dundalk garda station.
