
Two people died in a road traffic collision in County Waterford on Saturday. The crash involved a car and a van and happened at Robin Hill on the Tramore Road in the townland of Pickardstown, roughly 3 km outside Waterford City, just before midday.
A man and a woman in the car were pronounced dead at the scene; their ages have not yet been confirmed. The driver of the van, a man, and a child passenger were taken to University Hospital Waterford with injuries that are not considered life-threatening; their ages are also unconfirmed.
GardaÃ, Waterford Fire Service, and the National Ambulance Service attended the incident. Garda forensic collision investigators remain at the scene. The road is expected to stay closed for at least another couple of hours.
A senior investigating officer is leading the inquiry into the circumstances, and a family liaison officer has been assigned.
