Two men have opened fire outside a mosque in Avignon, France leaving eight people seriously injured, according to French media.
According to the La Provence newspaper, the attackers had their faces covered and drove a Renault Clio at the Arrahma mosque, with one carrying a handgun and the other a rifle.
People were leaving the mosque when the men arrived and the opened fire injuring up to 10 people. They subsequently fled the scene and are believed to now be on the run.
France is on high security alert following its series of recent terrorist attacks but police claim tonight’s incident is more than likely not terrorist related but they cannot confirm this at this time.
