Reports of Australian scientists have created a new virus that they say can potentially help fight cancer

Scientists have developed a new cowpox-style virus in an effort to cure cancer.

The treatment, called CF33, can kill any type of cancer in a petrie dish and reduce the number of tumours in mice, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Professor Yuman Fong, an American cancer specialist, is developing the treatment developed by Australian biotech company Imugene.

They hope that next year’s treatment will be tested, among other things, in patients with breast cancer.

Professor Fong is currently in Australia to organise clinical trials, which are also done abroad.

Patients with triple-negative breast cancer, melanoma, lung cancer, bladder cancer, stomach and colon cancer would be assessed as part of the study.

Success in mice does not guarantee that the virus can treat humans, but Professor Fong remains positive because other specific viruses have been effective in the fight against cancer in humans. The virus responsible for the common cold has been converted into treatment of brain tumours by scientists in the United States.

In some patients, the cancer disappeared for years before reappearing, in others the tumours were significantly reduced.

Similarly, it has been discovered that a form of the herpes labialis virus called Imlygic or T-Vec can treat melanoma because it helps the body’s immune system to detect and destroy tumours and melanoma cells in the body.
