Two volunteers were injected with a new vaccine in the UK, the first of more than 800 people recruited to take part in the study.
Half receive a “Covid-19 vaccine” and the other half a control vaccine that protects against meningitis, but not against the coronavirus.
The design of the study means that volunteers don’t know which vaccine to get, even though doctors know it and to see what effects they both have.
According to acting leader Nick Hancock, the vaccine is being developed by researchers at Oxford University has an 80% chance of success.
Although Hancock warned that nothing is certain, he stated that scientists are hopeful and are ready to begin mass production before the trial ends.
