The Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe has confirmed that the price of cigarettes will be increased by 50c in this year’s Budget.
In a move that will see the average pack of 20 costing €14 comes after years of similar increases.
Ministe Donohoe said the increase was being made in the interest of public health.
The latest move has received some criticism from tobacco groups as many say it will result in more people turning to the black market for products.
