Gay Marriage: Polling stations open for voting nationwide. Turnout reported as steady

Referendum day has finally dawned, and polling stations are now open across the country. Just over 3.2m people are entitled to cast their ballot today.

Polling stations opened at 7am and will remain open until 10pm.

Voters will receive two ballot papers: a white ballot paper for the marriage referendum and a green ballot paper for the age of presidential candidates referendum.

After voting is finished tonight, the ballot boxes will be sealed and stored securely before counting begins at 9am tomorrow.
