The Tánaiste Joan Burton has confirmed that she has no intention in returning to the social partnership.

Although Ms Burton believes that  there is scope to sit down with trade unions to discuss their plans for the future. Ms Burton made her comments after the Finance Minister Michael Noonan claimed that the social partnership had been “a failure” and would not be returning.

Joan Burton also said she would like to see some sort of social dialogue to map out a way forward for Ireland. Ms Burton told reporters: “Nobody envisions going back to the old style social partnership,” said Burton. “But, there is an absolute role for social dialogue – meetings between Government, employers and trade unions with a view to getting people back to work and assisting the economy to grow.”
