Calling Covid-19 the “Chinese virus” or the “Kung Flu” is not racist, President Trump insists

US President Donald Trump has insisted that calling the Covid-19 virus the “Chinese virus” is not racist and did not condemn referring to it as the “Kung Flu” which a reporter alleged a White House official called it.

When a reporter at a White House press conference confronted President Trump for his use of the term “Chinese virus” the leader of the free world dismissed concerns that this was racist and said it was an accurate term as the virus originated in China.

The US President also made reference to conspiracy theories floated by a Chinese government official recently in which it was suggested that US troops had brought the virus to Wuhan.

“…As you know, China tried to say, at one point, that it was caused by American soldiers. That can’t happen, it’s not gonna happen as long as I’m president. It comes from China.”

Some proponents of political correctness have suggested that the use of term such as “Chinese virus” can encourage racism against Asian people.
