Chairperson of the National Children’s Hospital development board steps down following controversy over build costs




The chairperson overseeing the National Children’s Hospital development, Tom Costello has resigned from his position.

Mr Costello, handed in his resignation to the Health Minister Simon Harris this morning following the controversy surrounding the cost of the project.

The news of Mr Costello’s resignation comes after the Public Accounts Committee revealed earlier this week that the overall cost of the new hospital could exceed €2bn.

In a statement regarding his resignation, Mr Costello said he was stepping down because he was concerned about the reputational damage is having on the important project

Mr Costello also said that he his resignation would ensure that all focus would be on delivering the project in the future.

He added that he acted with complete professionalism and integrity since he was appointed to his position back in 2013.
