Mike Allen, Head of Advocacy for Focus Ireland, has criticized Joan Burton’s refusal to increase rent supplement levels, going as far as saying that she has ‘signed the eviction notice’ for hundreds of families over the coming months.
Mr. Allen refuted the Government’s claim that an increase could inflate prices in the housing sector, adding that prices have increased by around 20% over the past two years without the Government touching rent allowance.
He also said he is seeking legal advice to see if the Government were stepping outside their powers in taking such decision.
Mr. Allen claims that over 100 families have been made homeless in Dublin since Christmas.
