Over the last five years, the HSE has paid out large amounts of money in compensation due to malpractice cases and other issues in hospitals and clinics across the country.
Around €67m out of that amount were paid as compensation after claims of medical malpractice during birth procedures.
And about €3.6m were paid as a result of patient exposure to “medication fluids, medical gases and biological hazards”.
