The Chinese government is harvesting organs from executed prisoners on a massive scale a new report has found.
The report by former Canadian lawmaker David Kilgour, human rights lawyer David Matas, and journalist Ethan Gutmann revealed what they claim is a massive discrepancy between official government figures for the number of transplants carried out throughout the country.
The report cites the Chinese government, the Communist Party, the health system, doctors and hospitals for being complicit and estimates that 60,000 to 100,000 organs are transplanted each year in Chinese hospitals.
China has long been accused of organ harvesting from prisoners, particularly, those belonging to the outlawed religious group, the Falun Gong but also Christian and Muslim prison camp detainees.
Meanwhile, the communist dictatorship in Beijing has said that since the beginning of 2015 all organ donations from prisoners was “completely voluntary”.
In a statement Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said
“As for the testimony and the published report, I want to say that such stories about forced organ harvesting in China are imaginary and baseless — they don’t have any factual foundation”.
The report, however, asserts that tens of people being held in prison camps such as the ethnic minority Uyghurs, Tibetans, underground Christians as well as Falun Gong practitioners being are executed to allow their organs to be harvested for transplants both in China and abroad.
