The Chinese government has admitted that it destroyed its early Covid-19 samples but claims that this was done, not as part of an alleged cover up but rather for safety.

Last month US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stepped up his allegations against Beijing that the communist dictatorship had engaged in a cover up of the true nature and scale of the outbreak thus enabling it to spread across the world.

Liu Dengfeng, a supervisor with China’s National Health Commission, admitted that ‘the Chinese government issued an order on January 3 to dispose of coronavirus samples’ at unauthorised laboratories, according to Newsweek.

The Trump administration, earlier this year, cut off funding for the World Health Organisation and called for a investigation into how the UN organisation initially dealt with the outbreak, claiming that it acquiesced to Chinese demands to help cover up the truth of the Covid-19 outbreak.
