Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys has announced that Child Benefit will be doubled tomorrow to cover the cost of living for 650,000 families, reports Independent.
The measure means more than 1.2 million children across the state will receive €280 per child.
Minister Humphreys also announced details of the Christmas bonus which will be given to around 1.3 million people this week, including pensioners, carers and disabled people.
The total cost of Christmas bonuses received by households in Ireland is over €320 million It will be paid on the same day that beneficiaries normally receive their weekly pension or other basic benefits, reports Independent.
Meanwhile, those receiving more than 12 months of sick pay will also receive the same Christmas bonus as last year.
“Christmas is a very special time of the year, but it can be an expensive period for individuals and families,” Ms Humphreys said, reports Independent.
