Claus von Bulow, the Danish socialite who was convicted of murdering his wife Martha von Bulow in 1982, has passed away aged 92.

Von Bulow was accused of murdering his wife Martha, an American heiress also known as Sunny, by administering an insulin overdose so he could inherit her wealth, and also become free to marry an alleged mistress. Martha fell into a coma from which she never recovered, and remained in a vegetative state until her death 28 years later.

He was charged with murder, though later acquitted at a retrial in 1985.

The affair was dramatized in the 1990 film Reversal of Fortune, starring Glenn Close and Jeremy Irons.
