“Come and Take It” reads the message on the historical flag raised at the Texas Military Department, the headquarters of the Texas National Guard, as tensions between the Lone Star State and the Biden Administration intensify over the crisis at the U.S southern border.

The flag, which also features a cannon, was first used during the Texas Revolution which saw the state become an independent Republic before joining the United States.

Since the beginning of the Biden presidency, millions of illegal migrants have crossed the Rio Grande into Texas from Mexico and after this unprecedented invasion brining unbearable strain on public services as well as violent crime, drugs and vagrancy, the Governor of Texas ordered razor wire be put in place at key crossing points of the border.

Incredibly, the Biden administration sued Texas in the U.S Supreme Court to force them to remove the wire and won a decision 5-4 however, Governor Greg Abbot has refused to obey the court and continues to take measures to stem the flow of illegals into his state.

Governor Abbot is using the Texas National Guard as well as State Troopers to carry out these defensive measures and there is speculation that Biden may attempt to “federalise” the troops, which is to say take direct control of them from the White House.

However, there are signs that the Texas National Guard will disobey this order, and 25 other U.S states along with former President and presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump have backed Texas in its defiance.

Some commentators have compared the current atmosphere in the United States to that of the situation in the antebellum America which preceded the secession of the Southern states and the bloodiest war in American history.
