Cork Hotel purchased this week rumoured to be converted to an asylum centre – Hotel Staff fear immediate redundancies

The Quality Hotel in Redbarn, just outside the seaside town of Youghal in East Cork has been purchased by an unknown buyer.

According to CorkBeo, guests booked in for the summer and people coming for the Ironman festival in August have had their bookings cancelled after news broke locally that a new company is taking control of the hotel from next week.

The hotel staff fear that they will be made redundant and many locals are concerned about the impact that this move could have on tourism in the town. Only recently, a new seashore boardwalk was constructed to link the hotel to the town.

It is understood that the government is already in talks with the new owners / management company about housing Ukrainian refugees at the hotel. It is not clear when discussions about housing refugees first commenced.
