“Transparency urgently needed” from government on how much they are paying Hoteliers for housing asylum seekers

There have been many news reports broadcast by RTE and other news broadcasters showing Ukrainian asylum seekers arriving and living in hotels up and down the country.

The impression could be given that the hoteliers were giving their hotels up for free to house the asylum seekers as hotel owners were interviewed in some news segments as if it were an act of charity.

However, the Irish community have not yet been told how much these hotel owners and other accommodation providers are being paid to house the huge influx of asylum seekers from Ukraine and elsewhere.

There is little doubt that hotel owners are being paid a handsome sum for each room they use for asylum seekers. They may even be paid on a per person rate.

Irish taxpayers, should know how much hoteliers and other accommodation providers are being paid, but this information is not public knowledge.

Maybe it’s time for Irish taxpayers to ask their elected representatives to be accountable and tell us how much hotel owners and other accommodation providers are being paid.
