The British Government will be asked to urgently issue a £7.5bn bailout fund for the airline industry, if a disaster is to be averted.
Such request comes from Peter Norris, the chairman of Virgin Atlantic Airways’ majority shareholder, the Virgin Group.
The travel industry has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, with bookings all but gone and mass cancellations. Most airlines have been forced to greatly reduce or eliminate services altogether for the time being as people stay at home.
If the bailout is not forthcoming, thousands of jobs might be at risk, according to Mr. Norris.
