Coronavirus: Irish army put on higher state of readiness to deal with COVID-19 crisis

The Irish Defence Forces will soon be put on a higher state of readiness to deal with the worsening COVID-19 situation.

It is understood that the armed forces will be on Yellow Alert status from Monday, March 16, which means all leave and training is canceled, and that units are subject to rapid deployment wherever necessary.

Military facilities might be used as quarantine zones if the disease spreads to thousands of people across the country.

There are now 70 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ireland.
