Things may be bad in the UK but they were a whole lot worse just one week ago.
The UK has reported the death of 450 more people in hospitals from Covid-19-related causes over the last 24h.
The official death toll there now stands at 16,522. This figure does not include people who may have died from Covid-19 outside hospital settings, so the true figure is probably far higher.
NHS staff have been struggling with desperate shortages of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) over the last few weeks. A large shipment of medical material expected on Sunday never arrived.
