Coronavirus: Hundreds of thousands people from all over the world are due to fly into Dublin Airport for St Patrick’s Day celebrations

Italy is on lockdown, China is a disaster, the UK has 273 infected patients and over 102,000 confirmed cases around the world.

Now it’s the week where Ireland shines around the world, the St Patrick’s Day celebrations. But this is no ordinary year. This year the world has to contend with coronavirus.

Many estimates claim that as many as 500,000 people flew into Ireland for previous St Patrick’s Day celebrations.

We can be sure that hundreds of thousands of people will be flying into Dublin this week whether a parade goes ahead or not. Ireland has no testing facilities at airports or ports so potentially thousands of people could be flying into Dublin who have coronavirus.

It’s frightening to say the least that many of these people who are due to fly into Dublin may well be unknowingly carrying the Covid-19 infection.

Disgracefully, the Irish government remain steadfast and say that the St Patrick’s Day parades are going ahead even though 75% of people The Liberal polled say they think all parades in the country should be cancelled.
