Councillor plotted to kill detective and Revenue Commissioner

A former city councillor plotted to murder a garda detective, a Revenue Commissioner and an accountant, a court has been told. Gerard O’Flynn of Cork pleaded guilty to soliciting another person to commit the murders.

Mr O’Flynn is the son of former Fianna Fáil TD Noel O’Flynn and is a solicitor. O’Flynn apparently contacted someone, who was named in court, to kill three men who were also named. O’Flynn is also under psychiatric supervision, the court was told.

The potential motive for plotting the killings is as yet unclear. Mr O’Flynn comes from a long standing political family. His brother succeeded him on Cork City Council. The trial continues.
