Court gets shown CCTV of some of Ashling Murphy’s last movements

Jurors in the trial of Jozef Puska watched CCTV footage of teacher Ashling Murphy’s last movements, as well as some of her clothes and jewellery, reports RTE.

Jozef Puska, 33, of Muckleagh, Co Offaly, denied murdering Ms Murphy on the afternoon of January 12, 2022, on the Grand Canal in Tullamore.

The jury was told gardaí reviewed more than 25,000 hours of CCTV footage to piece together the relevant footage for the prosecution.

Garda David Harney and his colleague put together a compilation and played it to the jury this afternoon.

He told prosecutor Ann Marie Lawlor that he had watched the compilation 100 times.

He accepted that his assessment of what he saw was his opinion, but jurors were told that it would be up to them to judge what the CCTV showed.

The first part of the CCTV footage shows Józef Puskar cycling from just before 12:30 on January 12, 2022 to just after 2:00 p.m. on the same afternoon.

The footage shows Mr Puska cycling from Muckleagh towards Tullamore, starting the route around Tullamore at 12.25pm, reports RTE.

At around 1.38pm a woman wearing a burgundy jacket was seen walking towards Cloncleigh Retail Park on the outskirts of the town. The recording shows Puska riding a bicycle behind him in the same direction.

The woman goes to the parking lot in the shopping centre.

Then Puska rode his bicycle into the same parking lot. The woman goes to Tesco. Mr. Puska rode his bicycle on the service road next to Tesco, came back and left the parking lot the same way he came.

The hearing will resume on Monday afternoon, reports RTE.
