A court has heard that ISIS bride Shamima Begum’s life is at a real risk if she doesn’t return to the UK. The east London woman, then a teenager, travelled to Syria to marry an Islamic State fighter has launched a new legal challenge against the decision to remove her British citizenship.

29-yr-old Shamima left the UK with two other teenagers in February 2015 and lived under Isis rule until 2018. She was found, nine months pregnant, in a Syrian refugee camp in February 2019. She was almost immediately stripped of her British citizenship after she asked to return to the UK, a decision her lawyers claim was unlawful as she was left stateless as a result. It is actually legal if the person is entitled to citizenship of another country.

Meanwhile ISIS bride Lisa Smith’s whereabouts remain unknown in Syria. The Co Louth woman wants to come back to Ireland with her daughter.
