Coveney says the Irish Government could cover the costs of European Health Insurance Cards for Northern Irish citizens following Brexit

The Tánaiste Simon Coveney has revealed that the Irish Government have could cover the costs of European Health Insurance Cards for people in Northern Ireland following Brexit.

Mr Coveney who was speaking in the Dáil on Tuesday, said the Government is looking at ways to extend the right to people North of the border in the event of a no deal Brexit.

It is believed that Northern Irish citizens would not be able to use their cards which provides access to medical treatment in any EU member state as they would automatically be invalid.

However Mr Coveney told the Dáil that the Government would seriously consider passing a legislation that would allow Northern Irish citizens to access the same medical cover that those from the Republic would receive if they travel to the EU.
