Coveney says there will be minimal lifting of restrictions but acknowledges that people need room to breathe

The Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney has said that there will be a minimal lifting of restrictions on April 5th but he has acknowledged that the public have become frustrated.

Speaking to RTE’s This Week, Coveney said that both the Government and NPHET are cautious of a fourth wave but they know full well that the public need room to breathe.

Coveney told the programme that no decision has yet been made, nor has NPHET given any recommendations.

The Foreign Affairs minister said that any lifting of restrictions would be minimal and they would be more focused on outdoor activities, he stated that we don’t want people to meet up especially indoors as the virus is known to be more transmissible in indoor environments.

He added that the country is desperate to avoid a fourth wave and the Government doesn’t want another scenario where restrictions are eased and then have to be immediately re-imposed in order to stem the spread of the virus.
