Covid-19: Chief Medical Officer blasts pub owners attempting to open their premises early, saying that ‘drinking pints and eating a packet of peanuts’ does not mean the pub is a ‘restaurant’

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan has blasted pub owners attempting to open their premises early, saying that ‘drinking pints and eating a packet of peanuts‘ does not mean the pub is a ‘restaurant.’

Pubs will be allowed to reopen on June 29 as long as the premises can operate as a restaurant. Social distancing and other measures will still be enforced, however.

Pubs that do not serve food will be able to reopen on July 20.
