Covid-19: Chief Medical Officer warns against premature optimism about the pandemic, saying that Ireland could still ‘become the next Italy’

Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan has warned against premature optimism about the pandemic, saying that Ireland could still ‘become the next Italy,’ according to the Irish Mirror.

Lockdown restrictions were somewhat eased on Monday, with older people now allowed to leave their homes for brief periods of time -providing they stick to strict guidelines-, and the extension of the travel zone from 2km to 5km.

Dr. Holohan was responding to negative comments that the Irish economy will not be re-opened until July or even August. Again, he reiterated that a cautious approach is best.
