Ireland reported almost 2,100 new infections on Friday, the highest daily figure since January, despite the ‘successful’ vaccination campaign.

Health authorities reported 2,098 new cases, with 251 people now being treated for severe Covid-19-induced illness across Irish hospitals.

It also emerged in recent days that Ireland is set to receive a batch of unused vaccines from Romania. HSE boss Paul Reid appeared enthusiastic about the idea of using hand-me-down vaccine doses from a country whose healthcare system ranks last in the entire European Union in terms of quality, facilities, and efficiency.
