Covid-19: Irish health authorities confirm 581 new coronavirus infections over the last 24h

Irish health authorities have confirmed 581 new coronavirus infections over the last 24h.

Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Tony Holohan, has expressed his ‘concern’ about this rapidly deteriorating situation.

Mr. Holohan has advised young people to ‘hold firm’ as they wait for their turn to be vaccinated.

Notably, Ireland is still using AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, both of which are banned in some European countries due to severe -and sometimes fatal- side effects.

Also, it recently emerged that the Pfizer vaccine’s efficacy in preventing infection drops sharply over a relatively short period of time, prompting the company to float the idea of regular ‘booster’ shots.
