The world’s second most populous nation, India, has implemented its own Covid-19 lockdown for large swathes of the country that will see over one billion people being told to stay in their homes for 14 hours a day from Monday with all but essential services being prohibited.

While different states in the country will have slightly different restrictions implemented almost all major cities in India will face strict lockdown procedures.

The measures were announced on Sunday after a surge in reported cases of Covid-19 virus in the country which has 350 and 7 deaths.

While this may seem low, for a densely populated country such as India, the country suffers from desperate poverty and poor hygiene with only a small portion of the populace having regular access to professional healthcare all of which do not bowed well for stemming the spread of the disease.
