Please stay at home – HSE plead with public to give health sector a chance to tackle the coronavirus outbreak

There was a large increase from Sunday to Monday in the number it confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Republic of Ireland with a jump of 219.

The HSE has appealed to everyone to stay at home if at all possible because this is said to be one of the most important weeks in the HSE’s history.

The island of Ireland now has 1,273 confirmed cases with 148 in the north and 1,125 in the Republic of Ireland.

Top medics, including Dr Tony Holohan say that we don’t yet know whether social distancing is working but that this week will be imperative.

Some 15,000 tests will be carried out daily with a backlog of 40,000 to get through. People are asked to stay away from all social gatherings if at all possible.
