Covid-19: Pandemic Unemployment Payment likely to be phased out later this year

The Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) is likely to be phased out later this year.

According to the Government, the payment will cease from September or October.

It is understood that new applications will no longer be accepted soon.

The PUP was introduced as a temporary measure, but its removal contrasts starkly with the Universal Social Charge (USC), which was also introduced as a ‘temporary’ measure in 2010, but it’s still being collected by the Government eleven years later.
