The R number has skyrocketed in Germany, raising deep concerns about a new coronavirus outbreak that might already be out of control.
The figure was 1.79 on Saturday. On Sunday, it had risen to 2.88.
The R number represents the reproduction rate of the virus. The higher the number, the more people will be infected.
Germany has so far registered 8,882 Covid-19-related deaths.
