Cowen: “The whole water charges issue is a ‘complete mess’ but the Irish people must still pay their outstanding charges”

A leading Fianna Fail TD has labelled the issue of water charges as a complete mess, but has insisted people should pay their remaining charges before the suspension comes in.

Fianna Fail’s Barry Cowen, revealed there will be no bills after July 1st, before stating he paid his water charges and advised others should do the same. Although the much hated charges could be completely scrapped today if a number of opposition TD’s are successful with their latest motion, Mr Cowen said it would be in the best interests of the Irish people to pay their outstanding charges as it would prevent any future legal action.

Mr Cowen also said the much hated charges still remain in place and we must deal with them accordingly, before stating: “Let’s deal with the facts as they are, until such a time as the Dáil amends the legislation the existing legislation as passed by the last Dáil [remains in place]. The then government railroaded their whole water policy … and it’s been a sorry mess ever since.”
