An inquiry has shown that the driver of the car at London Stansted Airport may have been fatigued and preoccupied when he crashed into a Ryanair aircraft, reports Breaking News.
According to the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) study, he could have been suffering from “inattentional blindness,” a condition in which an individual fails to see an unexpected item in plain sight.
On October 4th, last year, the unidentified man was driving a passenger support vehicle at the Essex airport along a route towards an aircraft stand when he crashed.
The Ryanair aircraft, carrying 103 passengers and 6 crew members, had the right of way when it crossed the road to head to a different stand after an inbound trip, reports Breaking News.
Both the car’s roof and the plane’s right wing were visibly damaged in the impact.
The driver did not appear to detect the plane until almost five seconds after it began to turn, according to an analysis of CCTV footage taken inside the truck in the moments leading up to the incident. The driver did not make “any obvious glances” towards it via the left window.
He attempted an emergency stop and started to reverse, but he was unable to move aside.
Nobody was hurt, reports Breaking News.
