D Hotel in Drogheda will bring a whopping €13 million a year for housing migrants

For sheltering more than 400 migrants, the D Hotel in Drogheda’s owners will make slightly under €13 million annually, reports The Mirror.

They will be sharing a room at the 113-bedroom hotel at a daily charge of 78 euros per person.

The former owners were turning a profit of one million euros a year, at an average rate of 100 euros per room each night.

However, they will get 312 euros each night under their new two-year contract with the Department of Integration. Supposing a year with full occupation, the total comes to €12,868,440.

According to a person familiar with the negotiations, the state is essentially paying 312 euros per room every night, whereas the previous owners were only receiving 100 euros. This is a horrible bargain for taxpayers.

“They will of course have to provide breakfast, a light lunch and dinner to each person,” reports The Mirror.

The D Hotel is the sole lodging option left for visitors in the town of Drogheda, and Integration Minister Roderic O’Gorman has promised local TDs that only families requesting international protection will be accommodated there, reports The Mirror.
