Dail pasees Bill that allows Gardai greater powers to shut pubs who fail to comply with Covid-19 guidelines




The Dail has passed a new Bill that will allow Gardai greater powers to shut pubs who fail to comply with Covid-19 guidelines.

It is understood that the Bill was passed 126 to 12 on Thursday.

The new Bill will allow Gardai to immediately shut a pub for the day if they are in breach of guidelines.

Gardai will also be allowed to shut pubs for three days if they breach the rules for a second time.

Meanwhile pubs will be shut for a full 30 days if they breach the rules for a third time.

The new legislation will run until November 9th and can be extended if the Dail votes to approve it.
